As you have probably guessed, time on the boat has been paramount this summer, studio time in waves, and they are "choppy" waves. But we can store things. The things-- the landscape, the moments, that stay with us will be the most important.
While sailing in the Muscle Ridge Channel one day I noticed I had cel service (and often do not), so I checked my mail. I had received a request to purchase a painting. It's always a great feeling when someone relates to your work, but even more this time. She said, "ever since I saw your painting, I have not been able to get it out of my mind". What a beautiful compliment!
And so what I originally painted, because it stayed with me after seeing the striking one design fleet of ATLANTICS in Blue Hill, then stayed with this viewer.
Then today I found this (so perfectly said!):
“The most vital things in the look of a landscape endure only for a moment. Work should be done from memory; memory of that vital moment.”
-Robert Henri
